The return of the Detroit Tigers to respectability and even dominance (briefly) has been a long time coming. This observer is overjoyed at having seen all three wins against the damn Yankees in the division series, and has moderately high hopes for the series against the A’s. To all who cheered for the Tigers over the last two decades, living through the jackassery of the Randy Smith era in particular, I thank you. It has been too long and I hope this postseason doesn’t end too soon.

To hell with Ilitch, the Tigers, and Carnival Park. That team died at the end of the 1999 season. Go Cubs!!!
Cordero was expendable because they had Todd Jones and Matt Anderson was on the come up at the time. Easley picked up off the scrap heap and turned into an all-star 2b. Palmer an all-star 3b, and before his career ending shoulder inj. he had two seasons in detroit where he earned his pay. You’re blaming Smith for what was done to the organization before he got there. In his second year in Detroit they were the most improved team in the majors and the Organization of the Year (that’s an award given out to the team with execs. that made the most positive impact in the game). Smith was thrown under the bus in S.D. and in Detroit by Dombrowski and Illitch. The same was done to Trammell. Oh let me guess, Leyland was that final component that got them over the hump. Yeah, that or all of the guys they overpaid two years ago decided to play this year (Maggs, Pudge, Guillen) That and the pitchers all got one year older. You should be thanking Smith for trading the Brewers closer to the Rangers otherwise Dumb and Illitch would never have overpaid for Percival or Jones. At least you put on a good show in the world series. The Cards were much better than their 67-95 record. May God Bless You Oasis
